When can my child join Scouting?
Squirrel's are the youngest sectiong aging from 4 to 6 years old, young people may be able to start a several weeks before their 4 birthday however this is down to each Scout Group's own waiting list policy, please check with the group you are wishing to join to find more information about starting age. Beavers are aged from 6 to 8 years old, Cubs are from the age of 8 to 10 1/2, then Scouts 10 1/2 to 14 with Explorers starting at 14 and running until they are 18 years old.
How much does membership cost?
This varies from group to group, please contact the group you are interested to find out their cost of membership. Subscriptions could be weekly, monthly or termly and some use direct debits. If you’re concerned about the cost, do speak to the leader in confidence; there may be assistance available as no young person should miss out.
How will my child benefit from joining Scouts?
Parents tell us their children benefit hugely from the adventures, fun and friendships they experience. It can help develop your child’s social skills and independence, and give them access to some amazing and memorable opportunities.
Why has my local Group got a waiting list?
Due to a shortage of volunteers nationally there are currently approximately 60,000 young people waiting to join the Scouts acorss the UK. If there is a waiting list for your local Group – why not help out? Whatever your skills and availability, there will be some way you can contribute, meaning more young people get to experience the adventure of Scouting. You don't need any prior expierence, we provide all the training and support to help you undertake your role. If you don't wish to directly work with young people we have various behind the scene roles that will suit you, this could be with the group or if you fancy supporting the district get in touch today.
